Jan Ramsay

Book Binding
Life is too exciting to sit still and ferment. There is too much to learn with never enough time.

Jan started out in a medical career and changed to be a fashion designer, braille and sign language teacher and photographer for the past 20 years.

Creating hand bound books for clients was her stand out end product which was loved by not just her clients but herself. She wanted to keep them all. In Jan’s work, she likes to look for what’s not normal and see what creations she can make.

ABOUT THE HOUSE OF ARTISAN WORKSHOP

Welcome to this fun book binding workshop.

Making books and book binding is such a relaxing, fun and creative past time.  You can be as creative or as gentle as you like with your creativity. The sky is your limit to how far and how fun you want to be.

I guarantee you will get hooked like I did 14 years ago. In this workshop we will make 2 books. We will be pumping along as I want you to get the most out of this workshop. After finishing your binding of the books you can complete them by painting in them, drawing, insert photos, collage, gluing fibres, pressed flowers, fabrics, mixed medium, sewing – Your imagination will run wild.
I will be providing some paper to use for the covers of your books but if you would like to bring your own that is more your style then please do. You will need 4 sheets of either scrapbooking paper (some Spotlight stores have this and they are usually 12”x12” square), or any Nepalese paper as long as the GSM is within 50-100. Because we will be covering 2 books you will need enough for 4 covers (front and back x2).
I look forward to sharing my love of books with you.

Suitable for: Ages 12+

Workshop Level:   Beginner

What do I bring? BYO Lunch and snacks – Tea and Coffee will be provided.

Most tools will be provided but there are a couple that I need you to bring as well :-

4 Tapestry needles  (available from Spotlight)
Scissors for cutting thread
4 sheets of either scrapbooking paper (12x12inch square) or any Nepalese paper (GSM 50-100).
