ABOUT THE ARTISAN

Robin is Gympie’s version of a hidden Mary River gold nugget!
Attracted by the lure of beautiful vintage French and Italian fabrics, embellishments, and her life long love of sewing, she has developed her own gorgeous range of Rag Dolls.  And she has agreed to teach her craft to 8 incredibly lucky participants!
After her father passed away Robin and her mum Betty would spend time together sewing for family and friends using vintage and recycled fabrics long before it became fashionable. Robin’s mother was a beautiful sewer and a great mentor. The duo had lots of fun sourcing unique fabrics and sewing & designing baby clothes and accessories inspired by times past. For a number of years they supplied a selection of exclusive shops as well as having a popular market store at Saturday’s Edmundi Markets. Betty has since passed away but Robin’s love for sewing and creating continues. These little French inspired rag dolls are her main passion now and she is delighted to teach people how to make them and put their own stamp on them.

ABOUT THE HOUSE OF ARTISAN WORKSHOP

Come join in a fun morning of creating in this brand new to HOA doll making class.  Take home a handmade rag doll, using new and vintage fabrics.  If there is something special or sentimental you would like to include feel free to bring it along.
Everything will be supplied including a pattern and easy to follow instructions so you can take your own little lady home along with enough supplies to make another one if you get hooked. Robin will be bringing along some of her favourite fabrics and embellishments, some purchased from Paris flea markets, estate auctions and other sources. She is sure you will have a fun day with lots of laughs and you will have a beautiful little French inspired rag doll to take home for yourself or someone special.
Basic sewing experience is necessary. Robin will have her sewing machine handy if you need. You’ll learn a number of different knotting techniques as well.
You will learn how to:
– cut out the pattern
– stuff the doll
– design the little outfit
– how to dress your doll
– decide on embellishments
– create the hair and face features
Robin will have some already cut out and stitched (ready to stuff) if you don’t feel confident, or else you can cut out and hand stitch from the very start.  Take home your own little sewing kit to keep as well as detailed instructions to try in your own time.
